We will stop here for couple of hours. The guide will offer you a hike up to Brennisteinsalda or the Sulfur Wave. During the hike your are surrounded by nature so peculiar that you would hardly be surprised if you saw an elf running by. The colorful rhyolite mountains and some small hot springs scattered all over close to Brennisteinsalda with a mystical steam rising up from them. When returning to the huts, after about two hours of hiking, there still is enough time to take a bath in the natural pool.

HnausapollurHnausapollur

Hnausapollur is a huge crater on our way from Landmannalaugar. The view over the crater is exceptionally beautiful with high contrast, red lava and the blue lake, makes this stop really wonderful.

The Valley of TearsSigöldugljúfur

FAQ

What is the weather going to be like?

In Iceland, there is no guarantee of the same kind of weather will be the whole day, even though there is beautiful morning during the pick-up in Reykjavík. Keep in mind that the weather can change very suddenly and you might just experience all four seasons in one day. So be well-prepared and bring plenty of layers.

What should I wear?

Iceland is known for colourful weather and even in our short hike we could experience all 4 seasons.

It is a bit of a challenge to dress up for this sort of weather. We always recommend dressing in layers. 3 upper layers are highly recommended such as a light t-shirt (preferably wool) next to the skin, then a fleece or heavy wool garment, topped off with a waterproof windbreaker.

Lightweight hiking pants, track pants or long cotton pants are best and then wind/waterproof pants over. Jeans are not recommended for hiking as they become very heavy, cold and uncomfortable to wear when they get wet.

Sturdy hiking boots are highly recommended although good sneakers are good enough for this rather comfortable and short hike.

Is there a stop for food?

There are not many stops to choose from when traveling around the highlands of Iceland. We will stop once on our way to Landmannalaugar and once on the way back where you can buy food and drinks. During the summer it is also possible to buy food in Landmannalaugar, but it is smart to prepare a packed lunch and snack and bring it with you on the trip.

Do I need some insurance before going on this trip?

Travel insurance is always a good idea. We recommend that you have personal health insurance coverage when participating in any adventure activities in Iceland, as you would when travelling anywhere in the world.
